Description
Michael Marmot, Director of the International Centre for Health and Society at University College London, is the principal investigator of the Ẁhitehall Studies', whose results have profoundly influenced thinking about the determinants of health and the roles of empowerment on health. He traces an evocative portrait of the difficulties faced by scientists when they venture out in the political domain. He describes the panic situation surrounding the mad cow disease situation in the UK and examines the relative weight of scientific evidence in influencing public opinion.
