![[9] and it is referred a Secret, how many more of the Fifteen die foon after of the Wounds and Bruifes there received, as alfo how many of the Mothers remain alive, after paffing through fuch Experiments, as are there try’d on miferable Mortals. And your Petitioners farther charge, that the faid Focus, Maulus, and their Confederates, the better to warrant their wicked Doings, frequently affert, that your Petitioners were dead, before they came ; and in order to fupport this their Affertion, they (by the Advice of Dr. Bar ebon e heretofore Tutor to the faid Focus, and others) take an Opportunity to pinch our Navel-Strings; by which we are as expeditioufly kill’d before Birth, as we could be by Drowning, or Suffocating, after it. And we your Petitioners laftly charge, that the Nurfes, who attend Labours, haveing generally no other View, but to make the moft of their Calling; and finding that the faid Focus, Maulus, and their Con¬ federates, takeing no Part of the Goflips Gifts, the Mid¬ wife’s Share is by that means divided between the Nurfes, think it their Interefl: as well to conceal the- aforefaid Cruelties pra&is’d upon us and our Mothers, as to endeavour by Lyes and faHe Reprefentations to ter¬ rify our Mothers from the Ufe of Midwives, and to advance the Credit and Reputation of the faid Focus, Maulus, and their Confederates.
