Lettering

Med. d. et practic(us) in patria felicissim(us) nat(us) Soraviae Inf. Lusat. MDCLXVIII den. MDCXCIX aetat XXXI. Kupizi ora patent oculis, sed nescia pingi / Mens proba et ingenium testibus innumeris. … Joh. Christoph. Sturmius P.P. Altdorf una cum maestissimo socero. The inscription around the portrait names the sitter's birthplace as Sorau (subsequently Żary) in Lower Lusatia, Brandenburg and Poland. A couplet in Latin verse followed by a sentence in Latin prose by Johann Christoph Sturm of Altdorf laments the sitter's early death, in association with Kupitz's father-in-law
