About this work
Description
Includes:
6 May, 1894 (franking date). Postcard, from Anvers, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co. "I think that the Raw Hide Medicine Chest should in future be so described and no longer called the Livingstone Chest.... My special reason for this is that the Dartford Hospital was named after Livingstone at my request. Therefore the name should not be used in our business."
8 May, 1894. Collett Smith to Burroughs, requesting instructions for distribution of 200 copies of Swanley Times and Dartford Chronicle, reporting on "the laying of the Memorial Stone of Livingstone Cottage Hospital by Stanley." Verso, Burroughs lists a number of addresses, with the instruction that "Mr Stanley's speech should be marked in each paper."
23 May, 1894. Postcard, from Vienna, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, regarding Vienna exhibition, damaged supplies, and supplies not arrived. See attached explanatory account (25 May) from BW&Co, which includes reference to contrary instructions from Henry Wellcome and lists various points of confusion and mis-communication.
17 August, 1894. Copy letter, Sudlow to Burroughs, reporting that "Mr Searl has found our stock of Malt Essence shows distinct signs of fermentation." Burroughs replies (verso) that there is "no other remedy than addition of more alcohol."
21 August, 1894. Cham, Switzerland, Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, referring to an exhibition in Antwerp. "So Mr Wellcome has objected to any more expense being made for space at this exhibition for the Tea Tabloids...." Burroughs then proposes a way of circumventing Wellcome's objection.
28 August, 1894. Burroughs comments on the stocking of Menthol Plasters and the Australian market (see his comments in the margin of copy letter of 23 August).
