About this work

Description

Récréations d'un Cassaïré. A calligraphie MS. with a historiated decoration on the third leaf in pencil, and numerous pen and pencil head- and tail-pieces. The poems are in the dialect of Languedoc, and according to Duhem, bookseller of Montpellier, the work was printed from this copy, in a limited edition in 1869, though the copy in the Wellcome Library is dated 1870. Among the verses is a scatologic poem on Dr. Louis Aimé Fizeau [1776-1864] of Montpellier, 'La Liçou daou Dr. Fiza' (pp. 1-11), and there are others (pp. 87-112) on a visit to the Vichy Waters. Produced in Montpellier.
