Description

An Abridgment of Wake upon the Church-catechism. An Abridgment of Grotius concerning the Truth of the Christian Religion. Author's holograph MS. On the second fly-leaf 'W. Davies M.A. Magd. College Oxford 1797'. This is written by the Rev. William Davies [1769-1849], nephew of Dr. Edward Jenner, who has also made some MS. notes on each of the dedications relating to Stephen Jenner. Produced in Oxford.

1 volume 86 ll. + 78 ll. 4to. 201/2 × 16 cm. 19th cent. half-calf binding, damaged. The first work is on paper of slightly smaller size.

Purchased at Sotheby's 27/11/1918, Lot 997 (part).

Biographical note

Each of these works bears a dedication to the Rev. Thomas Jenner, D.D., President of Magdalen College [1687-1768]. The author was himself a demy of that college from 1750 to 1753, and graduated B.A. in 1753, and M.A. in 1756.
