As co-existent or subsequent links of this chain of sympathies, the functions of the brain, heart, respira¬ tion, STOMACH, intestines, UTERUS, BLAD¬ DER, ETC. become variously affected. The mus^^ cuLAR system aiid the senses also suffer in dif¬ ferent instances. And nutrition, absorption, and secretion are impeded or impaired. 327. From this view of the subject, the cha¬ racter of the Mimoses, § 1, may be deduced. And the recurrence of this word, leads me once more to apologize for the introduction of a new denomination for these diseases. I have been induced to adopt this term, first, to prevent a great deal of circumlocution; and, secondly, be¬ cause I could find no other in use, which was not objectionable from implying some hypo¬ thetical view of the subject. These motives, 1 trust, will appear sufficient to justify the inno¬ vation. I can at least conclude in the words of Morgagni,—longe mihi potior cura est veri- tatis 4tiam novitatis. < FINIS.
