    offer our literary friends a few observations, the object of which will be to point out to them how their habits interfere with the na- tural operations of life and health, and the method by which their studies may be pursu- ed without injury to their corporeal strength. With this end in view, we shall first give a general sketch of the manner in which the disorders of men of letters are induced, and afterwards a minute and physiological analy- sis of their causes, and the way in which they may be avoided. In the execution of this plan, we shall not be without a hope that it may prove useful, since we are certain that no stronger motive than the conviction of the understanding can be offered to those who are, not only the possessors, but the professed ad- mirers of intellect.
