Description
"One angel bears the lily, the flowering rod that confirmed Joseph as the Virgin's consort; another holds the palm fronds and dates of the miraculous meal eaten on the flight to Egypt; Joseph himself holds the staff with bundle and water-bottle he took on that flight"--Ekserdjian, op. cit., p. 412
