But let the Dr. Reflect, that whatever Service I propole to do him by my Writings, as Ida* not vainly pretend to teach them of whom I have Learnt fo much ; fb neither can I think his Ignorance and Prefumption great enough to Suf¬ fer him to communicate That to thofe Difcern’ng Gentlemen for a Novelty and Monfter in Prattice. In Fine, I do Requeft, Demand, and Peremptorily Infill upon it, that Dr. Gray fhall lend me his Bills for Mr. Worger, with an account ot his whole method of Practice, in his Gale 7 and I do expeCl of him that he plainly and Pofitively exprefs himfelf in a voluntary Affidavit as to the. Trepan : either fupporting the Reafbnablenels and Keceffity of that Operation, or elfe as openly Denying that I Difputed againft it with Him, or any other Perton in his Hearing, and maintain that he did never Confent or agree to the Performance,, or Permit it by his Approbation or Connivance. I farther Requeft of him,, that he would perfuade his Sur-J: geons once more to affidavit it explicitly upon the fame Points. Thele things I expert in a Fortnight’s time:, or if they be too great Favours to be Granted, that he wifi in this Paper give me a Peremptory Refufal, with his Reafons for fo doing. I fhall only add, that it becomes a Man of Skill and Honour rather to learn of his Betters, and to Acknowledge his Miftakes (to which we are all liable) than to endeavour by Guilty Subterfuges to evade the Arguments* which (after I have Juftified myfelf againft his Affidavits) I fhall Prefs him to maintain too clofely for a Gentleman, Scholar, and Phyfician to Refufc. P. S. When the Violence of the Dr.’s PaJJion is over, he will under ft and my Ma- nufeript too well7 to wifh for its Publication \ however if he can’t flay ?ny Timcy; he is at Liberty to make it as publick as he pieafes. This being Ineffectual, I thought it was high time to be at a certainty in my expectations, wherefore I prefs’d'him for his anfvver by a fourth and laft LETTER. THE Time being elaps’d, when I expeded Dr. Gray s Anfwfcr to my Requeft and Demand, without any the Leapt notice taken of them, I; can’t help exprefling my Surpriie at his Behaviour \ which is fo Different from what is in common Civility and Juftice due, among Perfons who have Affairs to tranfaft with each other.
