    After due deliberation, it was deemed desirable to offer the advantages of the Asylum to patients which are to be found, in considerable numbers, among the middle classes, but whose means will not permit them to pay the high terms of respectable private establishments where, alone, the same advantages of skill and care can be obtained as are afforded in County Asylums. It was therefore resolved, that private patients shall for the present be admitted under the following regulations :— 1st. No patient can be admitted whose condition threa¬ tens speedy death, or who is in a state to require the exclusive care of an attendant. 2nd. The charge for each patient to be 14s. per week, payable quarterly, in advance. 3rd. The patients to be allowed, when it is desired, to wear their own clothing; but, in such cases, a sufficient and stipulated quantity must be provided by their friends. 4th. The relatives or friends to be required to sign an undertaking to remove the patient whenever called upon by the Committee to do so. 5th. In the treatment of this class of patients no difference is to be made between them and the other patients, either as to food or accommodation. Of the present inmates of the establishment, there are chargeable to Parishes in Cheshire .. 308 „ „ County Treasurer. 28 „ „ City of Chester . 17 Parishes in other Counties.... 7 99 9) n 99 as Private Patients, 6 Total. 366 The charge made for Pauper Lunatics belonging to the County is 8s. 2d. per week * from all other Counties 14s. per week. During the year several minor additions and alterations to the Out-buildings have been made, the work for the most part having been done by the artizan attendants of the Asylum. These works include the enlargement of the Steward s House, and of the Entrance Lodge, and the erec¬ tion of necessary Farm Buildings ; the cost of the whole having been defrayed from the sum allowed by the Lunacy Act for annual additions and repairs.
