"Booth" is unidentified, but in the British Museum online catalogue, he is tentatively identified as Pieter Bout (1658-1719), active in Brussels and Paris. Bout is named as the author of staffage in landscape paintings by other artists (such as A.F. Boudewijns), and his work was present in 18th-century collections such as that of Jean-Baptiste-Pierre Le Brun
