The Ancient E.R.

Draws on paleopathological and bioarchaeological evidence as well as papyri, ancient manuscripts, bas-reliefs and frescoes to support a positive evaluation of surgical knowledge and practice in Pharaonic Egypt and ancient India, with particular reference to facial reconstructive and orthopaedic surgery. Includes a long section filmed in the Wellcome Library Reading Room and features Dr. Dominik Wujastyk (Wellcome Trust Centre for History of Medicine at U.C.L.) and Caroline Checkley-Scott (Wellcome Library, Conservation Dept.).
