This combination allows tissues such as the lungs, bone and blood vessels to be seen as cross sectional slices. The technique is expensive, and may not be widely available. CT scans are taken at different levels of the body according to the condition that is being investigated. The patient lies on their back during the procedure, and the observer should imagine that he is standing at the child's feet and looking up towards the head. This scan was taken at the level of the lungs. It can be used for diagnosing lung conditions including complex cases of pneumonia, pleural effusion and cancer.
