About this work

Description

Jonathan Miller leads a discussion on issues raised by public reaction to the genetic modification of crops. Taking part in the programme are Prof. Don Grierson, Dr. Mai Won Ho (author of 'Genetic Engineering - Dream or Nightmare?'), Dr. Brian Wynne (Lancaster University) and Dr. Janet Radcliffe Richards (philosopher, Open University). Dr. Miller opens the discussion with the questions of whether the science of genetic modification is sound, whether public criticism is justified and whether ordinary people are in a position to make judgements on the subject. The participants consider what is actually involved in the process of genetic modification and discuss scientific risk and responsibility.
