Description

A portrait of the life and work of Michel Foucault (1926- 84), author of "Madness and Civilisation"(1961) and "Discipline and Punish" (1975) whose ideas helped to to shape the concepts of the post-modern world, especially perspectives on the history of psychiatry and of clinical medicine. Contributors include James Miller, author of "The Passion of Michel Foucault", Paul Rabinow, author of "Michel Foucault - Beyond Structuralism and Hermeneutics"; and Camille Paglia, author of "Sex, Art and American Culture". Also appearing are Dr. Denys Foucault (brother of Michel Foucault), Prof. Roy Porter (Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine), Jeffrey Weeks (author of "Sexuality and its Discontents") and Michel Feher (editor of "Foucault's Collected Works"). The programme includes archive film clips of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir and extracts from the 1947 film, "Tete a Tete with Antonin Artaud".
