Site Director for St Marys Hospital Lesley Powls and Bed Manager Linda Wall explain the hospitals capacity for that week, and discuss its chronic bed shortage. Advanced Vascular Nurse Rachael Lear explains the urgency of patient Peters situation. Discharge Nurse Sister Alice Markey visits her patient Tadeusz, whose discharge from hospital is becoming administratively difficult due to his status as a DTOC (Delayed Transfer of Care). Consultant Physician Dr David Shipway explains the barriers that might prevent staff from discharging certain patients. Healthcare Assistant Jessica Bristow explains the complications with discharging 91-year-old patient Dorothy, who is awaiting transference to a community hospital. Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Shelley Ward, ICU Registrar Dr Daniel Solomon, and Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Sadie Syed discuss the logistics involved in manoeuvring people around the beds in the Intensive Care Unit, following an emergency case involving a man suffering a gastro-intestinal bleed.
