    tion, or a priori, the graveft Writers ort thefe Matters confine themfelves to this, that the prima materia of all Metals is a Hibtile un&uous Fluid, which occafions a Confidence and Solidity, or Coagulation in fome folid Body, ailing in the Bowels of the Earth in the manner of a fixing Vapor. And that this Vapor or Spirit is of a fulphurous acid Nature, is proved from many Arguments ,• for almoft all Mine¬ rals fmell of Sulphur, and being put on the Fire exhale an acid Steam, not unlike that of common Sulphur, when burnt in the open Air. Befides, all Mines abound with fulphureous Steams in pro¬ portion to their Richnefs in Oar $ and that their fulphureous Steams are diffufed through the whole Globe, is plain from the furprizing fubterraneous Phenomena, the burning Mountains, and the Earth¬ quakes, which cannot be well accounted for any otherwife.
