Description

The first section contains notes on 208 medicinal plants and their uses. This is followed by a collection on medical and miscellaneous receipts (18 pp.), by a later hand: the date 1795 is found on p. 10. P. 19 to the end of the volume contains 165 receipts in all, of which 1-161 are by the original hand, and four at the end by the second hand. Of those Nos. 114-160 are for various mercurial preparations.

Physical description

1 volume 39 ll. + 19 pp. + 70 ll. (last 3 bl.). 4to. 191/2 × 15 cm. Original calf-gilt binding with flap and brass lock, the upper part of which has been cut out: green silk end-papers. Headings in red. Written mostly on pages of a green-lined cash book in which the date 1783 is found on a stump facing Receipt No. 10 of the third section.
