About this work
Description
The Brown Dog of University College (London) was a memorial to dog used for experimentation purposes in 1903. A memorial to it was erected in Battersea Park, funded by the Anti-vivisection League. It was subject to attacks and demonstrations by medical students and supporters of animal experimentation, meaning it had to be placed under police guard great expense. Consequently, the memorial was removed in 1910. A new memorial was erected in 1985. Baron had written a paper about the Brown Dog of University College in 1955, and in 1985 he wrote another article [anonymously] criticising the new memorial.
