    the title is given in a standardized form based upon modern standard Hindi usage with the original form of the title as given in the copy in brackets after the standardized title. If the title of the work could not be identified but it seems likely that the work originally had a title then the work is described as 'Unidentified'. If, however, it seems likely that the work never had a title then the work is listed as 'Untitled'. $ 1.3.14 Author The name of the author of the work, if known, is given in a standardized form based, like the title, on modern Hindi usage. If the author is not known then the author is listed as unidentified. § 1.3.15 Citations Citations are given in Devanagari as they appear in the text, with the following exceptions. First, in manuscripts copied by Jain scribes the use of the character called bhale at the beginning of the work is represented by the numerals eight and zero. [See C Tripäthl, p. 39.] Second, instances of ambiguous or unclear aksara s in the text are represented by the symbol The following citations are generally given; first, several lines from the beginning and second several lines from the end. In addition the colophon, if present, is given in full plus any post colophon text. § 1.3.16 Notes With the first work by an identified author the following notes are given where the information is available; the author's name, any other versions of that name, the period when he was active, where he was from or active, the name of his father, his guru lineage, his patrons, any notable features of his works and a note on the works he composed. Second, a note on the condition and quality of the copy of the work. Where possible the following notes are also made; the length of the work, the metres it is composed in, the divisions in the text and whether it is set to any rägas or dhälas, when and where it was composed and the subject of the work and its sources. $ 1.3.17 References Where possible the following references are given. First, if the author or work is cited in McGregor 1984 to that work. Second, if the author or work is cited in NPS 1964 to that work. Third to other English and Hindi sources that may be appropriate. However, it should be noted that a high proportion of the Jain and medical works in the collection have never been noted in any English works, a considerable number cannot be located in any Hindi reference works, and many of the works have never been published. Due to this references are not always given.
