About this work

Description

Woodblock illustration from Waike xinfa zhenyan zhinan (Guide to Tried and True Methods at the Heart of External Medicine), published in 1887 (13th year of the Guangxu reign period of the Qing dynasty). It shows the eighth posture in the practice of the Twelve Brocades of Cultivation. One bends the elbows, so that the shoulder joints follow the movement of the arms. One makes 36 circling motions, first on the left side and then on the right. This is called 'Single turning windlass technique'(danzhuan lulu fa).
