About this work

Description

Contains senna in a chocolate bar. Darmol was invented by Jakob Brady, the proprietor, from 1907, of the Apotheke zum heiligen Ägidius in Vienna. It became the best-selling laxative in the first half of the 20th century (website of the Apotheke zum heiligen Ägidius, accessed 21 January 2010). In 1934 the Darmol brand was absorbed into the firm Omegin Dr.Schmidgall GmbH: Dr. Adolf Schmidgall was Brady's son-in-law. Omegin Dr.Schmidgall GmbH later became part of the Hedoga group of companies in Switzerland. The logo consisting of the man with the candle became very well-known, and this type of candle-holder became known as the Darmol candlestick
