About this work
There is a breakdown of the division of work among the committees in a report of a conference of the affiliated associations in 1912 (Q.8/1).
The Institute is run by its representative Council working through the General Executive Committee. The Council is composed of persons nominated directly by the patron (the Queen or Queen Dowager) and persons representing many aspects of health and allied services. After the implementation of the National Health Act of 1946, sixteen members were appointed by the Local Authority Associations, and they also served on the Local Health Services Executive Committee.
