Lettering

Infirmary and Fever Hospital, Bedford, Beds. His grace the Duke of Bedford, H.G., grand visitor: William Henry Whitbread, esq. president ... Lettering continues: "The institution was founded in 1803 by the munificent gift of 9236 [pounds], through the spirited liberality of the late Samuuel Whitbread, esq., M.P; and in 1826, enlarged by the liberal gift of 2000 [pounds] by the Marquis of Tavistock, & other donors: also in 1847, the Fever Hospital was added, to the honour of the town and country, by voluntary subscribers, to whom this drawing is respectfully submitted by their most obedient servant, John Sunman Austin, architect Bedford. Drawn by John Sunman Austin, arch.t 1850"
