About this work

Description

In the German publication, described as "Der Büchsenschäffter". He assembles iron gun barrels and ivory stocks, for use on horseback or on foot. In the woodcut, he holds a long gun on the stone work-surface by the window of his workshop, while conversing with a customer who stands outside holding another long gun. This is not the same woodcut as the one in the same series showing a gunsmith ("Der Büchsenschmidt": Wellcome Library no. 34911i)
