About this work

Description

The Gloucester-Road bridge over the railway in West Croydon was to be replaced by a wider bridge. A locomotive was brought in to pull down the old structure. To assist the locomotive, the foundations of the bridge were weakened, upon which the whole fabric gave way and the brickwork bridge collapsed on the workers. Three were killed and others injured
