Description

This lively documentary follows the work of the busy Hospital for Tropical Diseases where most people suffering from parasitic ailments caught abroad go for specialist treatment. Consultant parasitologist Peter Chiodini deals with a variety of cases, from parasites that have invaded the skin to those which are potentially life threatening. We meet Jane Stewart who has a tapeworm larva in her brain and Mick Hemmings who almost died after contracting cerebral malaria in Gambia. Other conditions covered include: schistosomiasis eggs in the bladder, bot worms in the scalp, leishmaniasis parasites in the eye
