About this work

Description

Black and white photograph of a case of a cystic adenoma, with numerous intracystic growths, which was removed from a middle-aged woman in the Insel Hospital, Berne, 11 August 1886, by Dr Girard. The tumour has a definite capsule. It has been laid open from the front to show its internal structure. A glass rod is introduced through one of the channels which connect the cyst. The original specimen was preserved in the Hunterian Museum, Royal College of Surgeons, London, No.2904a.
