Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL): skin lesion This is a medium power view of one of the deep granulomas seen in image W0044361. It shows a central area of epithelioid cells (large cells derived from activated macrophages) surrounded by peripheral lymphocytes and plasma cells (arrow). H&E stain. There are Leishmania sp. amastigotes within the epithelioid cells but these are difficult to see at this magnification.
