About this work

Description

A painting in Rita Simon's Traditional Massive style, depicting a road lined with trees, with a gate leading to a meadow. Rita Simon stated that the work was, "an interesting painting by a woman in the day hospital about to be discharged. From my point of view, the diagonality represents change, the fact that she is about to leave hospital. The drop from middle to foreground, is very common in art, you cannot visualise the ground nearest to you. In the top right: a scene from psychotherapy, quite conscious and anecdotal. There are eleven trees and one chopped off: the second tree from the right is struggling".

The title has been taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.
