Description

In situ carcinoma This is a medium power view of a section of conjunctiva from an HIV-positive adult with in situ carcinoma and invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the epithelium. The in situ carcinoma is at the top, and the invasive squamous cell carcinoma beneath. H&E stain. In central Africa, HIV-positive patients have an increased risk of developing conjunctival carcinoma. This may be related to infection with human papilloma viruses (HPV).
