Sumat semunciam omni hora donee somnus supervenerit. Highly recommended by Graves and Murchison in the insomnia and delirium of typhus fever. SALTS OF SILVEE. Local Physiological. The nitrate of silver hardens primarily, but secon- darily destroys the cuticle, and condenses the tissues by coagulating their albumen. Its application may cause ul- ceration of the healthy skin, and checks the activity of granulating surfaces. A con- venient form is the argenti et potassii nitras of the B. P. used in pencils. Action. Therapeutical. Nitrate of silver, either in substance or solution, has been used to check the spread of erysipelatous inflammation, to arrest, the pitting of small- pox, and to avert the forma- tion of bed-sores. It is a good injection for gonorrhoea or collyrium for conjunctivitis, and a strong solution is one of our best remedies for various relaxed or ulcerated conditions of the fauces. In substance lunar caustic forms a good applica- tion to simple venereal sores, ulcerated tonsils, or to any ul- cerating or granulating tissue, when we wish to repress exu- berant granulations or excite a new and more healthy action.
