Programme 1 At Frenchay Hospital, the first patient, a young woman, is suspected as having trigeminal neuralgia. The patient has sharp electric shock-like pains in her face. Programme 2 At Frenchay Hospital, the second patient, a woman, has epilepsy. The patient has seizures every three days and grand mal seizures every few months. Her consultant is David Sanderman who has pioneered surgical brain imaging techniques. The patient has a lesion on her brain, which explains why her epilepsy has not been responsive to drugs. She goes into hospital for some intensive monitoring to find out if the epilepsy originates from the lesion. Sanderman talks us through her operation as it is in progress. There are clear shots within the patient's brain. A few months later, the patient is seizure free. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:30:00:00 Length:00:30:00:00
Programme 3 At Frenchay Hospital, the third patient, a woman, who having just had her second baby, discovered she has a brain tumour. Her consultant is David Porter who specialises in high risk brain tumours. The patient requires a whole day in surgery to remove the tumour. Porter talks us through her operation as it is in progress. He uses ultrasound to remove it. The tumour itself has a web-like presentation. There are clear shots within the patient's brain. Six months later, the patient is looking well with some double-vision in one eye which will be treated by surgery shortly. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:30:00:00 Length:00:30:00:00
