    PREFACE TO THE SECOND AND. THIRD EDITIONS. Tur rapid sale of a large impression of this work having rendered another edition necessary, many important facts are now added, so as to make the history of the Nervous Constitution as full as the present state of knowledge will admit of. Since the publication of this book, I have been consult- ed by letter, from different parts of England, by a numerous list of nervous patients, who seem to have been much gratified by the explanation whieh is here given of these diseases. ‘These persons had been in the habit of consulting medical au- thors; but confessed they had never met with any account of their complaints that satisfied them, till they perused this work. I can now add with great pleasure that the whole have reeovered their health. My grateful thanks are justly due to those mem- bers of the profession, in London and other large towns, who have, with a liberality and benevo- lence worthy of their learning and eminence, so warmly recommended this treatise, as calculated a
