About this work

Description

Fern-leafed plant with pale yellow umbels on tall green stems. The leaves have a thick, fleshy edible sheath which is used mainly as a salad plant or vegetable. Fennel has a sweet aniseed flavour and is also used in the perfume industry and in the manufacture of alcoholic drinks. It has carminative, diuretic and expectorant properties.
