About this work

Description

Full length, black and white photograph of a male sporadic 'cretin'. His appearance corresponds to about the sixth year of age. There is no pubic hair, the face wears a dull expression, and the root of the nose is depressed. The boy's age was believed to be about 16 years, but nothing was known of his history beyond the fact that he had been an inmate of an infirmary for eight years. His height was three feet three inches, and his weight 3 stones 10 lbs. Some of the second teeth were cut, but many of the milk teeth persisted. His speech was confined to a few monosyllables.
