Biographical note
Took BM and DM in 1778 and was admitted a fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In 1796 appointed Regius and Sherardian Professor of Botany. In 1811 made keeper of the Radcliffe Library which was exclusively appropriated to books in medicine and natural history.
