Description

Reproduction of a photograph of an Azande man preparing a hunting medicine. The photograph was reproduced in Evans-Pritchard, E. E: Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic Among the Azande, Oxford, The Clarendon Press, 1937, plate XXVI with the caption "Stirring and addressing bingiya medicine". The Azande are an ethnic group of North Central Africa. A photograph of the book plate with caption was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1938 (accession number PHO 10948).
