![[micrometkic measurements. The Standard for micrometric measurements very generally followed in Germany, and adopted in this work, is the fraction of a Paris line. In Great Britain, minute objects are usually measured in fractions of an English inch. The Paris inch contains twelve lines, and is longer than the English inch, in the proportion of 1.06575 to 1.00000 ; that is, the Paris inch is equal to 1 and -jlth of an inch English very nearly. Assuming this ratio to be sufficiently correct for all practical purposes, it is easy to convert fractions of a French line into fractions of an English inch, by multiplying the denominator of the former by the num- ber 11.25.
