Description

A man lies on his deathbed. Around him are various persons and allegorical figures. A physician takes his pulse, a confessor reads the last rites, female relatives grieve. At head of bed, Death holds an hourglass. Time stands near the foot of the bed with a scythe. Left, a figure representing temporal power walks away, while a figure holding the eucharist walks towards him, and a third figure points to his soul swimming up a ray of light towards the Tetragrammaton (God). Left foreground, the ten commandments send forth thunderclaps and an angel looks on
