    P'-R E F A C Ex to which the public might be ex-r poled by the ra(h ufe of medicines of oower, has been the occaiion of the prefent remarks 5 in which I am far from defiring to difcountenance all remedies whofe ufe may be at¬ tended with hazard: what I would wifli to inculcate is, that few reme¬ dies are ft for the ignorant, becaufe moft of them are capable of doing harm in the fame degree as good ; but, that of all others, thofe which may be fatal, when injudieioufly ad- miniftered, Ihould be referved for the practice of fuch as have both judgment and experience. This led me to offer my fentiments qn the ufe of the corrojive Mercury, which has, almoft infenfibly, drawn me into a fhort account of the different effedls of Mercury in general on the human body. I make no doubt but that many gentlemen of the profeflion have made the fame remarks in their practice as I have, fet down at the A 3 end
