About this work

Description

Not nearly as dull as its title might suggest, this film gives a fascinating account of the wartime development, testing and production of the insecticide D.D.T. (Dichlor Diphenyl Trichlorethane) and of the vital part it played in the Allied war effort in 1944-45. Includes remarkable and often dramatic footage of the de-lousing of captured German soldiers in France after D-Day (the Germans did not have D.D.T.) and of the use of D.D.T. to protect the civilian population of Naples during the cholera outbreak of 1944, as well as some vintage British screen comedy in the section dealing with the testing of D.D.T. on R.A.M.C. "volunteers". Of the greatest interest for military and social historians and historians of twentieth-century science and medicine alike.
