About this work
Description
The first in a three-part series in which Dr Alice Roberts attempts to look back at the evolution of our bodies. This part focuses on the evolution of the human skeleton. She visits chimpanzee colonies and discusses the fossil Sahelanthropus which perhaps provides a clue to how we became upright. Roberts tells how Australopithecus became Homo erectus and how evidence in our ankles, necks and waists show how we might have survived on the open plain. Changes to our hand structure over the centuries has enabled our hands to evolve from tree grabbing to more dexterous activities.
