Description

On fo. 1: "History of the Atmosphere in Observations on the Weather at Bristol began to be made in January 1774." There is no indication of the writer's identity. The contents are as follows:- Monthly observations fully recorded under seven headings: 1, Barometer; 2, Thermometer; 3, Winds; 4, Weather; 5, Rain; 6, The Moon, and 7, Diseases. The period covered is January, 1774 to December 1778. The most prevalent diseases in each month are entered under section 7, but in many of the months there are no observations under this head 8.

Biographical note

Samuel Farr MD (1741-1795) was physician to the Bristol Infirmary. He was identified as the writer of this text by comparison with an autograph letter by Farr.
