Seven lines of etched Latin verse below the portrait, headed : "Rite sano vel sino, [Greek] anagrammatikōs" (anagram for Ioannes Ortelius). The verses form an acrostic: the first letters of each line spell Ioannes while the last letters spell Ortelius
Portrait in roundel surmounted by coat of arms and surrounded by cherubim, strapwork, swags etc.
