Description
Measles infection
This is a high power view of the lung at autopsy in a child who died with HIV and measles. Within the alveolus are nuclear debris, acute inflammation and many giant cells containing abundant nuclei. These are formed from alveolar epithelial cells. Red-staining intranuclear and intracytoplasmic inclusions (arrowed) are evident - these are masses of measles virus. H&E stain.
The sections shown in images W0047308 and W0047310 are from the same child.
