About this work

Description

Correspondence, 1962-1972, between Professor J. H. Burn of Oxford and Dr E. Muscholl of Mainz, with reprints, draft papers, photographs, etc, on the Burn-Rand Hypothesis. The bulk consists of autograph and typescript letters from Burn, with some carbons of Muscholl's responses. There are a number of reprints by both men, and some unpublished communications, as well photographs illustrating reactions. There is one letter from Marthe Vogt to Muscholl, Aug 1967, advising him about the content of his proposed oral communication to the British Pharmacological Society meeting in Cambridge, Sep 1967. There is a covering descriptive note by Prof Muscholl.

Acquisition note

Given to the library at Wellcome Collection in May 2004 by Professor E. Muscholl of Mainz.

Biographical note

Professor J. H. Burn began writing to Erich Muscholl of Mainz in 1962 about their mutual interest in noradrenaline reactions. They had a 'long period of disagreement about the mode of release of noradrenaline... always conducted in a friendly spirit'.
