About this work

Description

Cerebral malaria: histopathology This medium power view of an immunostained section of brain from a patient with cerebral malaria shows microglial cells stained brown. They form a ring around a disrupting small vessel, as an inflammatory reaction to ischaemic myelin. This is not seen in acute cerebral malaria, but is a repair process that follows vessel haemorrhage in patients who are kept alive in intensive care. Anti-CD68 stain against microglial cells.
