About this work

Description

Five histograms, showing effects of the serum therapy in cases of septicaemia according to origin: all causes, otorhinopharyngeal, puerperal, medical, and surgical. Mortality per 100 persons. Described by Vincent in a letter of 26 October 1934 to the Wellcome Bureau of Scientific Research: "For the graphic relative to the antistreptococcic serum, I think that on account of its importance, its reproduction by a draughtsman (dessinateur) should be more esthetic than my poor drawing enlarged by photograph. When I had prayed M. Heusghem to transmit that suggestion to you, for that sketch should be made here, but unquestionably by all means, it shall be made as you like, and I will always be grateful. I will return the print with my signature and my renewed thanks. Since the beginning of microbiology an antistreptococcic serum has been studied and tried in the whole world and in all the laboratories. But it has not I think till now found a method which effectively is curing the most severe infections due to the streptococci. My method is curing those most grave infections: septicemias, meningitis etc. More than 81 per 100 of those patients (which, almost all, were condemned) are now quite recovered by the serum. It is for that reason that I have asked I have presumed to ask the enlargement of my graphic."
